EdScape now includes a Grade Progression Ratio dashboard which can be useful for enrollment projections.

  • Chapter 4 - Enrollment Patterns describes the complex enrollment patterns of students living and going to school in Washington, DC.
    • *NEW* Grade Progression Ratio: View and download SY13-14 to 21-22 information. The downloadable dataset now includes information citywide, as well as disaggregated by sector and school for SY13-14 through SY21-22. Filter school codes by LEA name.

EdScape now includes a Grade and Ward Enrollment trends dashboard.

  • Chapter 2 - Grade and Ward Enrollment Trends shows enrollment trends by grade and ward of the schools between SY13-14 through SY21-22. Trends for individual grades (or a selection of grades) by ward can also be viewed, and users can select either 2022 wards or 2012 wards to view the ward-level enrollment trends.

  • Chapter 1 - Population and Students describes the adult and child population of Washington, DC over time and neighborhood, as well as the public school student population.
    • *UPDATE* Total Population Trends: View the U.S. Census 2020 population count and 2021 population estimate for Washington, DC in the context of Decennial counts since 1950.
    • *UPDATE* Adult and Youth Population Trends: View and download recent adult (18+ age) and child population (<17 age) trends including 2021 estimates from the U.S. Census.
    • *UPDATE* Number of Births and Birth Rates: View and download the most recent number of births. The number of births by ward is also now available.
    • *NEW* Births to Kindergarten Enrollment Ratio: View and download the birth to kindergarten ratio, a calculation of the number of citywide public kindergarten enrollment for a certain school year divided by the number of citywide births five years earlier.
    • *UPDATE* Public School Enrollment over Time: View and download SY21-22 information. Data now available at the sector level.
    • *UPDATE* Public School Enrollment by Grade Level: View enrollment by grade band and download SY21-22 information.

    • *UPDATE* Where Public School Students Live: View and download SY21-22 information. The map and downloadable dataset now includes information disaggregated by the Comprehensive Plan Planning Areas, 2022 ward boundaries, 2012 ward boundaries, and neighborhood clusters.

    • *UPDATE* Private School Enrollment: View and download American Community Survey estimates of citywide private school enrollment from 2010 to 2019, as well as ward-level estimates for the five-year period, 2016 through 2019. Both the citywide and ward-level estimates included number and share, as well as margin of errors.
  • Chapter 2 - Public Schools describes the enrollment of Washington, DC's public schools by neighborhood and over time.
  • Chapter 3 - Public School Facilities describes the public school facilities located in Washington, DC. It includes information about the number and location of school buildings, their programmatic capacity, and utilization.

EdScape now includes school quality using DC's school accountability system, the STAR Framework. In addition, we've added the option to toggle school facility points on and off in several visualizations. View more details and links below.

  • Chapter 3 - Public School Facilities describes the public school facilities located in Washington, DC. It includes information about the number and location of school buildings, their programmatic capacity, and utilization.
    • *UPDATE* Number of Public School Facilities: View the number of public school facilities by the STAR Rating and sector of their schools for SY17-18 and SY18-19.
    • *UPDATE* Public School Facility Programmatic Capacity: View programmatic capacity by STAR Rating and sector. Filter maps of programmatic capacity by STAR Rating. Toggle school facility points on and off to understand which schools are located in each geography.
