Users can now select four different geographies - Comprehensive Plan planning areas, neighborhood cluster, and ward (2012 or 2022 boundaries) - to view where students identified as English learners live. English learners are concentrated in three planning areas: the Rock Creek East area, the Mid-City area, and the Upper Northeast area. As a share of all public school students, the share of English learners is above average for the same three areas plus the Near Northwest area.
By neighborhood cluster, English learner students are concentrated in the following neighborhood clusters: Brightwood Park, Crestwood, and Petworth (Cluster 18); Columbia Heights and Mt Pleasant (Cluster 2); Takoma and Brightwood (Cluster 17); and Lamont Riggs and Fort Totten (Cluster 19). The same neighborhood clusters have large shares of English learner students as a proportion of all eligible public school students living in the cluster as well. Other neighborhood clusters with above average proportions of English learner students include Shaw/Logan Circle (Cluster 7) and Kalorama Heights and Adams Morgan (Cluster 1).
