Users can select three different geographies (planning areas, neighborhood clusters, and 2022 wards) to view where students identified as "at risk of academic failure" (the definition used for funding purposes) live. By planning areas, Far Southeast and Southwest and the Far Northeast and Southeast areas have the greatest number of students identified as at risk. As a share of public school students living within the planning areas, Far Southeast and Southwest, Central Washington, and Far Northeast and Southeast area have the greatest shares of the public school students identified as at risk (between 75% and 66%).
At the neighborhood cluster level, the greatest number of students identified as at risk live in Congress Heights (Cluster 39), Douglas, Shipley Terrace (Cluster 38), and Capitol View, Marshall Heights, Benning Heights (Cluster 33), and Columbia Heights and Mt. Pleasant (Cluster 2). Neighborhoods east of the Anacostia River have greater than average proportions of at risk students as a share of all public school students, as well as neighborhoods such as Chinatown and Penn Quarter (Cluster 8), Southwest Waterfront (Cluster 9), and Ivy City and Trinidad (Cluster 23).
