Private School Enrollment

The American Community Survey (ACS) estimates with 90% confidence that between 13,200 and 17,422 nursery school through 12th grade students in Washington, DC attended private school between the time period of 2015 and 2019. The ACS also estimates that 15.5% of all nursey school to grade 12 students were enrolled in private school.

The number of private school students varies substantially by ward. The five-year American Community Survey estimates that between 4,654 and 5,766 students in Ward 3 attended private school between the time period of 2016 and 2020. This number is substantially higher than all other wards. The share of students enrolled in private school was estimated at 48% in Ward 3 during this time period as well (see the midpoint of the visualization tool tip). While the number of students estimated to have been enrolled in private school in Ward 2 is lower (1,286 students), the estimated share of students is comparable at 52%. The estimated share of private school students in Ward 8 is 7%, in Ward 7 is 8%, and in Ward 5 is 11%.
